Be your own boss

by admin on January 20, 2013

Having a day job is not part of the dream life of many people I know, yet alot of sharp individuals won’t take advantage of amazing opportunities just because they’re affraid to step out of their comfort zone and become their own boss. But according to Forbes, around 79 million people will be looking to start their own business in the next 3 to 5 years.

My greatest decision ever!

In September 2011 i was presented to my 2nd opportunity to become my own boss, the first one was in the mid 90’s and i didn’t do ¬†jack because i didn’t have the mindset and I was comfortable with what I had or so I thought. It’s always a challenge when you decide to start your own business, and if you don’t have the proper tools and the people to guide you, you will surely fail as I did but unlike 95% of the people I took responsibility for my faillure and didn’t blame my upline or the company but myself for the lack of education and entrepreneurship. Some people are born for this kind of business and others have to invest in courses, buy books, go to webinars and seminars, subscribe to newsletters and so on, and thats exactly what I did. I jumped in the world of Network Marketing like a kid that finds a secret doorway to Disneyland. I wanted to know and learn everything there was about this infamous business some call a pyramid scheme and others the Mecca of self made millionaires.

One small step for me, one giant leap for my life

It took me a good 8 to 10 months to grasp the true nature of network marketing and it’s secrets. I will gladly reveal one of them to you ” Your success entirely depends on the success of your team (downline)” ¬†I still remember my first two signups…They quit! Of course they did, I shook their hands, told them to make a list of people they knew and invite them for a presentation at their place the following week, now guest what happened, nobody showed up because first of all they didn’t know how to invite them and I surely didn’t teach them how, I didn’t know myself. Out of the first 30 people I invited only 2 showed up. It doesn’t matter if it’s your friends or family and it has nothing to do with the company your in, if you don’t learn how to talk to people you will surely fail, this is a people’s business and words are your biggest assets. I invested over 2 thousand dollars to educate myself, I bought scripts, prospecting & recruiting courses, alot of personal development books and I started to work on my mindset. I can say one thing about that; I would do it all over again if I had to.

So not a Guru!

I do not know this business inside out and I still make more mistakes than not, but everytime I do or say something wrong I learn from it, just like anything in life, when you fall you get up and do it again and again and again. Everything I’ve learn I teach to my team because not everyone has the will to fail over and over so mind as well do it right from the start. When I invest in myself I do it for others because I will benefit from it and so as they. I understand it’s a game of numbers and I am well prepared to handle rejection and criticism, I simply ignore it. I am extremely grateful for those who believe in me especially my very patient wife who saw me struggling and paid my bills for almost two years, now it’s on its way back to her, little does she know that somewhere there is a Diamond being cut to her name.

If you are looking to start your own business or join a network marketing venture, be ready to take responsibility for your gains and loss because no matter what happens, if you decide to be your own boss, ask yourself this simple question. ” Would you hire yourself ? “
